General information

Energy supplying companies tend to bill large-scale consumers not only by the amount of the energy consumed but also by the peak draw over the assessment period (unit price). Through the control of non-essential energy consumers and on-site energy producers (generators, batteries, etc.) the EMAX Add-On supports the consumer in avoiding needlessly high peaks to reduce the unit price and consequently the overall cost of energy.


EMAX helps to ensure that the energy draw will not exceed the limits of a user-defined tariff. To do this EMAX cyclically records the energy consumption over a measuring period and projects the values to the end of the measuring period. The integrated peak load limiter disengages consumers or engages producers should the projected result exceed the limits of the tariff. On the other hand, if the projected results are under the limits of the tariff, EMAX reactivates previously deactivated consumers and deactivates producers. 

 

  • The optimization procedures and options for parametrization of EMAX ensure that:
  • Only the specific number of consumers needed to not breach the limit of tariff will be deactivated
  • The number of switching operations and the associated disruption of procedures will be as low as possible
  • The intervention will be done as late as possible, not sooner or later
  • The frequency of disengagements of consumers is corresponding to their priority category within the 16 priority classes of EMAX and is distributed fairly
  • If the mean power draw remains roughly constant, the number of reactivated consumers will not require any disengagements in the next measuring period.

EMAX supports up to four different limits for tariffs and allows switching between these limits via manual, timed or impulse-controlled input. The peak load limiter considers the current state of the parameterized consumers in the process sequence for all switching operations, specifically:

  • Control state of the consumer
  • Operational status of the consumer (disturbance, hand and automatic operation)
  • Minimal and maximal disengage times
  • Minimal activation-time
  • Blocking time interval
  • Maximum number of disengagements per day

and presents the online statistic of the power over time as a graphic.
This can be turned into a log file of the following types:

  • Consumption-log, logging of the created power draw difference
  • Prognosis-log
  • Switching operations log

The peak load limiter works with all types of energy, as long the consumers are controllable and the energy supply is recorded by encoders.
